Cynthia Ahlstrin
Cynthia’s former life as a botanist and vet technician have greatly impacted her artistic practice. She dissects and investigates content and form to let her authentic voice speak best. Working in alternative printmaking processes, creating richly layered painted surfaces with pencil and pastel, ceramic, medal, drawing remains at the core of her practice. The content of Cynthia’s work speaks of the role of the woman - specifically how the roles of individual women in her life, and how their choices influenced and shaped her vision. Cynthia was particularly inspired by her father, a policeman who sketched and practiced drawing every night in their basement. Cynthia brings to the Collective a sense of community, positivity, and an enthusiasm for experimentation.
She lives in Winthrop with her husband David and son, Raynor.
