Kate Buehner
Kate’s artwork retells her childhood memories from summering on a Saltwater Farm in Lubec. Her work pulses with liveliness in her painterly approach to materials and markmaking. Kate’s family is embedded with artists, particularly noting on her Mother’s work who was a portrait painter and her father who painted and made a living as a designer of “Buehnilium.” Kate has a great love for the Abstract Expressionists, particularly Diebenkorn. Maine artist Rebecca Goodale also greatly influenced her approaches to bookmaking. Kate attended school in both New Mexico and New York City including Pratt and the New York Studio School. There, she was able to brush sides with such artists as Elaine de Kooning. Kate is also a master gardener. Kate brings to the Collective a brilliant sense of humor, humbleness, and sincerity.
Kate lives in Gardiner with her dog and cat, and shares house with good friend Janet.
